Hawker Tempest: Last of the Storms...
For the record, the first letter (or two for multi-mission) in the designation is for the mission type. e.g. F for Fighter, O for Observation, S for Scout, B for Bomber, etc. Multi-mission aircraft had two letters, e.g. SBD (Scout Bomber Douglas) or TBF (Torpedo Bomber Grumman).
Give me a B26 Maurader with the solid nose with 8x . 50 and the gun pack on both sides
Excellent content as ever. Thank you for all your time and effort producing it.
When you lose a dogfight to a Stuka you know it's against the Polish Air Force.
This is the first presentation concerning Polish aircraft and airmen i have heard. Thank You Brian. Best Wishes to everyone.
I wish all military would go away
How far we'd be ahead without military
Poland may not have produced many great aircraft , But they produced Many Great Airmen .
Yeap that's true. Polish Fighting Team , they were flying in Tunisia. They called them Skalskis Circus , from the name of the commander Stanislaw Skalski. Great story. Francis Gabreski or Donald Kutyna no need to introduce.
Make sometime an episode about PZL 37 Los twin engine polish bomber , who was proud of Polish Air Force. Best Regards and thank you very much for making time to do this film, and spreading the word about Polish Aviation. God bless you.
Yes that one is on my to-do list!
@worldofwarbirds Good to hear. Good luck, let me know if you need any help with Polish pilots stuff.
I wonder if Tim Rathbone is related to 1940's Sherlock Holmes actor Sir Basil Rathbone who was born in Johannesburg? In the Voice of Terror a ME 109 lands with a Teutonic spy in it but when seen on the ground it's actually some kind of civilian 1 or 2 seater.
What about the PZL24?

Very, very, interesting and entertaining. Also, no AI! Thanks for sharing. 🙈🙉🙊 😎 🇺🇸

Scoop this one: the JUNKERS 4,000Hp aero steam turbine. Intended for a high altitude long range superbomber.
i always wonder from which airfields did they intended to fly (and service) and with what fuel???
Yes, they hadn't really gotten to those details...
Great informative series. Thanks for making them. I really appreciate and enjoy your channel!
I'm glad you enjoy it!
Apologies that this isn’t directly related to the He177, but I really enjoy your narration and wondered who your voice reminded me of, then I saw Capricorn One the other day and realised it was Elliott Gould - do you come from the same area in the States or is it my aero engine damaged hearing playing up again? Thanks again for your channel and excellent content 👍
Thanks so much! I looked up Elliot Gould and it seems he’s from New York. I’m from Montreal, Canada, so not too far away! I loved Gould in “A Bridge Too Far”!
@@worldofwarbirds Definately my jet addled hearing then, not even the correct country! Either way you have a superb voice and talent for narration. 👍
Fun fact is that the endurance of the bomber was actually more than the life cycle of the engines, they would require an overhaul mid flight!
That’s true! And would be quite the feat while underway!!
Thank you. Interesting and entertaining.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the rare aircraft videos.
As long as people watch them, I'll keep making them!
Thank You Sir 👍
You are Welcome! 👍
I'm very much looking forward to a video (or two!) on the YB-35 and B-36. But I hope that when you do the one on the B-36, you look at how well the original design would have performed over Europe; i.e., no jet engines and with the retractable gun turrets kept in place. And if you still have any room, maybe a video on the Junkers EF-132? Of all the Amerika Bomber proposals, it was the only one that actually kinda-sorta got built and put into service (albeit as a post-war airliner rather than a bomber).
I hadn't run into that one yet, but I have added it to my list! Thank you!
American bombs from Germany were not intended to bomb the USA but to bomb the Soviet Union first hand and not the USA. You are completely wrong. the soviet union is closer to germany than the usa. To bomb the USA, and then fly from Germany. You count on a lot of fuel and few bombs or one bomb. So the Soviet Union is closer, more bombs and less fuel and it is closer to reach Vlauvostok in the Eastern Soviet Union. You are dead wrong, Sorrrryyyy
There was a "Ural Bomber" program and then an "Amerika Bomber" program. I agree that the Amerika one was pretty impractical, but it did exist...
Why show an AI generated image of a plane that didn't exit in any form? It cheapens the entire video.
I wanted to show the goal of the program (I used the image for all 5 videos in the series). As none of the Amerika Bombers actually succeeded in making it, I used a theoretical plane dreamed up by AI.
That B2 analogy is getting old. Ever since heavier than air aviation became possible, there were enthusiasts who were fascinated by the idea of making an aircraft that was "just wing", falling prey to the idea that "surely this must be the most efficient aircraft" (It isn't). The Hortens weren't the first, nor the last (but probably among the most tenacious and purist (along with Jack Northrop)). Though the Go 229 is often called Ho 229, in the Horten's counting it was the Ho 9
It's HortEn, dammit! Nothing to do with Tim's
Fixed! As a Canadian I guess I'm brainwashed. I'll have a double double with an apple cruller please.
Great research. I have a question, how many navigation lights has this plane? Where are they located? Thanks!
Hi! I like details but I didn't dig that far! Are you a modeller?
@@worldofwarbirds yes, I am researching the kingfisher because I want to add some lights on wings and tail, if possible :)
There is a Kingfisher at the Battleship North Carolina museum. Why not write to them and ask? I'm sure that they would be thrilled to go look at it and report back. Maybe they'll even send pics! My friend and I had a question about the B-25 and she send her contact at a museum the question and got the answer back in 10 minutes! They are fans that work at these places. battleshipnc.com/contact/
@@worldofwarbirds Thanks a lot!
You can't jettison landing gear after takeoff. That's takeoff gear!
Touché
Brian, i have enjoyed this heavy aircraft series a lot. I am looking forward to the B36 episode. Thanks again for your efforts Best Wishes to You and Your Family.
The guy is obsessed with aerodynamics but adds fixed landing gear?
Yeah, I thought the same thing...
I would absolutely love for you to do a serious vid on the Haunebu.
That is an interesting story all right!

Yes, as we are losing our heroes from WW2, it makes us realize that we are all now the stewards of this knowledge and have a duty to pass it on.
Why is this thing all over the tubes right now?
The Ho18? I swear I wasn't copy-catting! I had always intended to profile it along with the other Amerika Bombers!
Very interesting design. Only one major problem...engine reliability! No German jet engine of the time would have stood up to the rigors of flights that long. Durable engine materials had not yet been developed. 🤷♂
Yes, you are right. This whole program was not based in reality!
Pathetic Video = Find a New Hobby !
14,600 subscribers disagree with you, but sorry it wasn’t your cup of tea. Have a good day nonetheless.
Interesting you mentioned time travel to see the stealth bomber. In reality the Stealth Bomber was influences by Jack Northrop who was influenced by the Horton’s. 😊
It's an interesting web of influences. Don't worry - Jack Northrop and his wings deserve special attention and they will get it in time.

Nice One! Fascinating and Instructive ~ Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it!
My father was a radar/radio operator in a Night Beau...told me he flew 50 missions over Germany, he seldom talked of his experiences. This revelation was when I was 30. We were fishing and catching many trout that day, He did often say that the memories of the war were tough...lost too many friends.
Thanks for sharing!
A German aircraft was planning to fly across the entire Atlantic ocean, bomb America and fly back with no guidance other than dead-reckoning and engines that had a time to failure between ten and fifty hours? Six engines, that tended to fail in a fall-apart-violently way. Frankly. the Allies would have been happy if it had been tried.
Yes. There was nothing about this program that was based in reality!
You say Nazi Germany all the time but you don't say Democratic USA, why not?
Was the symbol of the Democratic Party on the fin of their aircraft?
@@worldofwarbirds No. And?
Because by the time of the outbreak of the second world war the Nazi party had co-opted the entirety of the German State and there was no longer any choice for the people to choose otherwise because it was a totalitarian dictatorship. There really was no distinction between State and Party. Their party symbol was everywhere: on the flag and on the fins of every Luftwaffe aircraft. On the other hand, in the USA the Democratic Party could be ousted at the very next election…that’s the difference.
It's easy to spot the real Zeke in a gaggle of replicas -- the replicas have seams where the outer wings attach to the fixed inners and airframe, while the Zero has a smooth, unencumbered surface from fuselage to the hinge for tip folding. Only the tip folds, for two reasons. First, to maintain the strength of the wing, and second, to make replacement fast and easy in case of hangar rash. Until the folding tip modification, the Zeke couldn't fit the plane elevators on Japanese aircraft carriers.
I love this channel. Thank you for your work. Excellent
Glad you enjoy it!
